How DTF Printing Works

How DTF Printing Works

Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing is a modern, versatile method for transferring vibrant, full-colour designs onto virtually any fabric — from cotton and polyester to blends and beyond.

What is DTF Printing?

DTF printing involves printing your design onto a special film, applying a hot-melt adhesive powder, and then heat-pressing the transfer directly onto your garment. The result is a soft, durable print with stunning colour detail.

The DTF Printing Process

  1. Design Preparation – Your artwork is prepared and colour-separated using specialized software.
  2. Film Printing – The design is printed in reverse onto a clear PET film using CMYK + White ink.
  3. Powder Application – Hot-melt adhesive powder is evenly applied over the wet ink on the film.
  4. Curing – The film passes through a curing oven or is heat-gunned to melt and bond the adhesive powder to the ink.
  5. Heat Transfer – The cured film is placed print-side down on the garment and pressed with a heat press at approximately 160°C for 10–15 seconds.
  6. Peel & Finish – The film is peeled away, leaving a vivid, flexible, and wash-resistant print on the fabric.
